After They Are Gone

Hello All,

If you have ever lost a beloved pet you know it is hard to find a way to ease the pain of that loss. Some have found it comforting to have something to remember or eulogize their furry friend. I have found a website that provides memorials and granite headstones for departed pets, as well as wheel chairs and other items that assist with quality of life for senior pets. I have had to purchase 3 granite headstones over the years for my dear friends, and I remember my little… Continue

Fluffy and Fido are NOT SNACKS!

Jeers to the Italian chef that claims cats are a delicious and tender delicacy...how lame do you have to be! As if cats and dogs don't have enough to worry about! Jeers also to Australia for allowing feral cats to be used in a 'cook off' contest to lower the numbers. Hey, this isn't rocket science! Invest in a trap neuter and return program...it has proven successful in controlling feral populations!

Cheers to the Chinese government for proposing a ban on eating cats and dogs that… Continue

Approach with Caution

Hello Families of Animals,

With great concern I am writing in regards to the folks that have contacted me regarding feline leukemia and AIDS. My blog was simply for the sharing of information and how pets are responding to the LTCI drug. I am not a veterinarian nor am I formally trained in animal care...I just wanted a post to share information. The internet can be a great tool or a dangerous one depending on how it is used. With anything, even dietary changes you should consult your… Continue

Feline Leukemia support group

Hello,

I have been contacted by a lot of folks who unfortunately had the diagnosis of feline leukemia or feline AIDs for their beloved cat. If anyone is interested in joining a support group to share not only medical information (what worked, what didn't), we could support each other in our efforts. It is a heavy burden dealing with a sick friend, and I just want to let you all know that you are not alone. Others have been through or are presently going through this. If you want to… Continue

Hi!

Thank you for accepting me to your Blog. I was taking care of a feral colony consisting of 4 adults and 4 kittens. Seven of the eight are now gone, mostly due to FeLV. I have one little baby left, named Goldy, who is very anemic now. He is around three years old, and the sweetest little boy you'd ever want to meet. I have seen several vets, and they all say the same thing...euthanize, and now is the right time.

Several weeks ago, I found Goldy outside, very ill, but he wouldn't let me catch him. I finally called animal control who used the catch pole successfully. Goldy's temperature was 90 degress, and of course, the vet told me she suggested to put him down while he was still under sedation. Being he's feral, they could never treat him without sedation. I asked if anything could be done, and she said she could try and warm him with sub q fluids, and also give him antibiotics for any infection. I said to go for it, as long as he wasn't suffering further by this attempt. The next day she said he rallied a little, but he wasn't eating or using the litter. She said he look depressed...well, who wouldn't? I asked if I could come visit. Goldy sniffed some treats I brought along, and began to eat. She said that he had used the litter. We took him home the next day, and that was a month ago! She was ready to write him off, but Goldy held on! He was doing pretty well until about a week ago. I fortunately found a mobile vet who came to the house. She suggested euthanizing, and I asked what we could do to help. She gave him a shot of steroids, and Goldy's doing reasonably well again...off and on. I am such a nervous wreck, not knowing when to let him go, or how much to fight now. The vet said her experience with FeLV+ cats who are anemic is that they aren't in pain, but they are very weak. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated! Thanks! - Sue

Hey Lori -

I do have a Memorial page set up. Roll over the link at the top for Photos and it's under there. If anyone wants to upload their photos for me to add to the Rainbow Bridge gallery just tag the photo "Rainbow Bridge" so I will know to add it.

Thanks,

Kecia

Thanks! :) I'm okay now, think I just had a moment. My boyfriend also has a Halloween decoration in Spooky's honor, but he keeps it out all year. Maybe I should try that.

Hey Lori -

I have no idea why it would quit working. Try unchecking the box and checking it again. See if that "resets" it.

Hi Lori,

The website link for the Toy Goalie - Couch Goalie is missing from the previous message, so I will post it here.

http://www.toygoalie.com
The product really works, it keeps toys and other assorted "thingeys" from becoming trapped underneath the sofa.

Thanks Lori!

Hi Lori!

Thanks for your advice and input!

I'm always finding stuff under the couch, pet toys, etc.. Cat toys are just small enough to get trapped and wedged under the sofa. The cats try to "fish" the toys out but usually the toys are out of their reach.

All the kittens appearing in the Toy Goalie video were adopted through Angels for Animals Network, a local rescue group.

None of my cats would cooperate in the making of the video!

Unfortunately back in January, PetSmart closed the store where the adoptions were being conducted. The girl in charge of AFAN's cat adoptions was completely overwhelmed since she has 60 kitties at home waiting to be adopted. I felt bad since there was one kitten left, Honey, a Tortie-Calico. Honey is cute as a button, but she does not like people at all. I always thought today's the day for Honey to find her new home, but when I would take her out of her cat condo cage, she would start hissing, and sometimes even spray the people who were interested in adopting her. What a mess.

So I took Honey home, (she loves other cats, especially my other cat Boris) hoping to "socialize" her. Seven months later, she's made some small strides! Poor Honey.
I always worried that if someone adopted her and grew tired of her antics, they may release her outside. I knew Honey would not survive outside.

I like your idea of renaming the product, "couch goalie".

Thank you for helping spread the word about the "Toy Goalie - Couch Goalie" product!
Keep's stuff out from underneath your couch!

Here's the link again
